Secretary Pritzker on International Trade in Goods and Services in February 2016

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker issued the following statement today on the release of the February 2016 U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services monthly data. U.S. exports of goods and services increased to $178.1 billion in February from $176.3 billion in January. In February, travel services registered a new record, with $15.3 billion of exports. In addition, growth in goods exports was largely driven by consumer goods, up $1.1 billion from January.

Counselor Antonipillai to Address IAPP on Privacy Shield

Justin AntonipillaiJustin Antonipillai, Counselor to the Secretary with the Delegated Duties of Under Secretary for Economic Affairs, will address the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) on Wednesday, April 6th, at the Global Privacy Summit in Washington, DC. Counselor Antonipillai will speak about the new U.S.-European Privacy Shield Framework, which was announced in February 2016. Privacy Shield is a major new transatlantic data transfer mechanism that will assist thousands of businesses on both sides of the Atlantic by simultaneously enabling and protecting data transfers.  Counselor Antonipillai was co-lead of the U.S. negotiation team, and will be speaking about, "Implementing Privacy Shield: Challenges and Opportunities."  This follows Counselor Antonipillai's recent testimony given to the European Commission on the Privacy Shield Framework.

Commerce Data Advisory Council to Hold Fourth Meeting at Google NYC Headquarters ~ See on Live Stream

The 4th meeting of the Commerce Department's Data Advisory Council (CDAC) will be held on May 5th – 6th, at Google headquarters in New York City. The Council will be briefed on a wide range of data work underway at the Department designed to unleash Commerce Data for public and private innovation, improve the quality, scope and timeliness of our economic statistics, and drive a more data-driven government. Presentations include key data projects underway at the Commerce Data Service (CDS), including the "Income Data Project," the "New Exporters Project," and the "Data Usability Project."
