Retail sales in January 2010 increased 0.5% from December, to $355.8 billion. This was 4.7% above the January 2009 level. Excluding autos, retail sales rose 0.6% from the previous month and increased 4.6% from the prior year, to $295.5 billion.
Retail sales in December 2009 decreased 0.3% from November to $353.0 billion, but this was 5.4% above December 2008. Total sales for the 12 months of 2009 were down %6.2 from 2008. Excluding autos, retail sales decreased 0.2% from the previous month and rose 5.2% compared to December 2008.
Retail and food services sales in August 2010 were $363.7 billion, up 0.4% from July and up 3.6% from the prior year. Excluding autos, retail and food services sales were $301.7 billion, up 0.6% from July and up 4.8% from one year ago.
