Building permits in April 2010 were 606,000, a decrease of 11.5% from March but 15.9% above the April 2009 estimate. Housing starts rose 5.8% from the prior month, to 672,000. This was 40.9% above the April 2009 level.
Building permits in March 2010 were 685,000, an increase of 7.5% from February and 34.1% above the March 2009 estimate. Housing starts rose 1.6% from the prior month, to 626,000. This was 20.2% above the March 2009 level.
Building permits in January 2010 were 621,000, a decrease of 4.9% from December, but 16.9% above the January 2009 estimate. Housing starts rose 2.8% from the prior month, to 591,000. This was 21.1% above the January 2009 figure.
Building permits in December 2009 were 653,000, an increase of 10.9% from November and 15.8% above the December 2008 estimate. Housing starts fell 4.0% from the prior month, to 557,000. This was 0.2% above the December 2008 estimate.
Privately owned housing starts in July 2010 were 546,000, up 1.7% from June's level but down 7.0% from July 2009. Building permits were 565,000, down 3.1% from June and down 3.7% from July 2009.
