The U.S. current account deficit increased to $115.6 billion, or 3.2% of gross domestic product (GDP), in the fourth quarter of 2009, up from $102.3 billion in the third quarter, or 2.9% of GDP. For the full year 2009, the U.S. current account deficit decreased to $419.9 billion, or 2.9% of GDP, down from $706.1 billion, or 4.9% of GDP, in 2008.

The U.S. current-account deficit increased to $123.3 billion, or 3.4% of GDP, in the second quarter of 2010, up from $109.2 billion (3.0% of GDP) in the first quarter of 2010.
