The U.S. current account deficit decreased to $117.4 billion or 3.0 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2012, down from $133.6 billion (revised) or 3.5 percent of GDP in the first quarter of 2012.

The U.S. current account deficit increased to $137.3 billion or 3.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2012, up from $118.7 billion (revised) or 3.1 percent of GDP in the fourth quarter of 2011.

The U.S. current account deficit increased to $124.1 billion or 3.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the fourth quarter of 2011, up from $107.6 billion or 2.8 percent of GDP in the third quarter. For 2011 overall, the current account deficit was $473.4 billion or 3.1 percent of GDP, up from $470.9 billion or 3.2 percent of GDP in 2010.
