Retail and food services sales in August 2010 were $363.7 billion, up 0.4% from July and up 3.6% from the prior year. Excluding autos, retail and food services sales were $301.7 billion, up 0.6% from July and up 4.8% from one year ago.
The U.S. international trade deficit in goods and services in July 2010 decreased 14.0% from June's level, to $42.8 billion. Exports grew 1.8%, to $153.3 billion, and imports fell 2.1%, to $196.1 billion.
New orders for manufactured goods increased 0.1% in July to $409.5 billion. Shipments increased 1.1% in July to $417.1 billion. Unfilled orders declined 0.1% to $802.8 billion, and inventories increased 1.0% to $526.0 billion.
Construction spending fell 1.0% to $805.2 billion in July 2010, down from a revised June value of $813.1 billion. The July 2010 figure is 10.7% below the July 2009 estimate.
Personal income in July 2010 increased 0.2% from June. Real personal consumption expenditures rose 0.2%, and real disposable personal income (DPI) declined 0.1%. The personal saving rate as a percentage of DPI was 5.9% in July.
