Manufacturer's Shipments, Inventories, and Orders

New orders for manufactured goods in November increased 1.1% to $365.3 billion. Shipments rose 1.0%, unfilled orders declined 0.7% and inventories increased 0.2% from October 2009.

Construction spending was $900.1 billion in November 2009, 0.6 percent below October’s estimate and 13.2 percent below November 2008.

Statement From Commerce Under Secretary Rebecca Blank on Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in 2009

An earlier version of this statement incorrectly reported that "the poverty rate would have been 14.8 percent instead of 14.3 percent in the absence of the Recovery Act. The correct statement is: "the poverty rate would have been 14.5 percent instead of 14.3 percent in the absence of the Recovery Act."

Manufacturing and Trade: Inventories and Sales

Business inventories were up 1.0% in July 2010 and up 2.4% from the July 2009 level. Sales were up 0.7% in July from the prior month and up 9.2% from their level a year ago.
