Sales of new single-family houses were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 330,000 in June, the second lowest on record after the revised 267,000 rate in May. June sales were 23.6% above the May rate but 16.7% below their June 2009 level.
The U.S. international trade deficit in goods and services in May 2010 increased 4.8% to $42.3 billion. Exports rose 2.4% to $152.3 billion, and imports increased 2.9% to $194.5 billion.
Wholesale inventories in May 2010 were $398.8 billion, up 0.5% from April but down 2.1% from one year earlier. Sales were $350.6 billion, down 0.3% from the prior month but up 15.1% from the prior year.
Construction spending was $841.9 billion in May 2010, down 0.2% from April 2010 and 8.0% below the May 2009 level.
New orders for manufactured durable goods in May 2010 decreased 1.1% from April, to $192.0 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.9% from the prior month, to $145.1 billion. Total shipments decreased 0.4% to $196.0 billion.
